Duo Tapas (Rupa Maitra, violin & Owen Moriarty, guitar)[ Ode Records / CD ]
Release Date: Friday 26 September 2014
"Owen Moriarty, arguably our best guitarist, and violinist Rupa Maitra have amazing flair for innovative music that has instant rhythmic appeal. The two tracks here by Bosnia’s Almer Imamović are a folk song apiece from Macedonia and Turkey, and both are rendered with an infectiously asymmetric vigour. Two works by North America’s Ian Krouse have a distinct Middle Eastern folk flavour. Miramar by Spain’s Pablo Sarasate has a catchy presto 5/8 metre and a melody that soars well above the power lines .." - Ian Dando (The Listener, January 2015)
In early 2010, Rupa Maitra, violin and Owen Moriarty, guitar, formed Duo Tapas, with the aim of performing a wide range of music written for this beautiful combination of instruments as well as exploring and introducing exciting new arrangements of music existing for other instruments. Duo Tapas' repertoire ranges from Vivaldi and Paganini through to De Falla and Bartok and more recent eastern Europe composers, styles ranging from Baroque through to twentieth century, including music influenced by folk music of Spain, Eastern Europe, Japan, Ireland and New Zealand.

This double CD features a highly varied selection of works: from J.S. Bach to Astor Piazzolla, and from solo to guitar quartet. Owen Moriarty plays on all tracks: he is a member of the ensembles Totally Plucked (with Clyde Clemett, Peter Leask and Alan Roskilly) and Toru (with Peter Leask, Chris Hill and Mike Hogan).
This album represents the world premiere recording of four New Zealand works from two of these performers: Mike Hogan is the composer of Hammerowen, In the Caves and Chasing the White Whale, while Peter Leask contributes Aatidhlge.
" Technically, Owen Moriarty’s playing is as clean as a whistle with tonally strong projection. More to the point, it’s his flair in winkling out new repertoire that impresses. Listening to his wide range from baroque to postwar, everything is in perfect style." - Ian Dando (The Listener, April 2004)

Songs of Death and Desire: Jack Body - Atoll Records (May 2015)
Originally conceived as a 'theatrical entertainment' and first heard at the 2013 Auckland Festival Songs and Dances of Desire consisted of twenty movements, five of them cabaret dances. Now recomposed by Body into this orchestral song cycle Songs of Death and Desire, these sumptuous songs, full of drama and passion, are given powerful performances by the NZSO and select vocalists.
"Atoll Records has provided handsome packaging for the late Jack Body's moving tribute to transgender icon, Carmen Rupe. Emotionally gripping stories, in Maori and Spanish, sung by Mere Boynton and Anna Pierard, sit alongside Chinese countertenor Xiao Ma who revels in Body's quirky takes on arias from Bizet's Carmen, all accompanied by the NZSO at its most dazzling." Classical picks of 2015 William Dart (The Herald, June 2015)
